RCA First Stories project
You and your congregation are invited to add your voices to RCA History!
At the General Synod 0f 2018, the Commissions on History and Women will be leading the synod in celebrating the gifts and ministries of women among us. All through 2018, the Office of Women’s Transformational Leadership is calling forth the gifts of women through the #sheiscalled campaign. On Saturday, May 12th, the Reformed Church Center at New Brunswick Theological Seminary, will be celebrating and hearing from first women in various ministries and offices at the second annual Women’s Stories Day.
Now you can add stories from your church family!
The Reformed Church Center, the RCA Archives, and the Office of Women’s Transformational Leadership are collecting First Stories. If you have women in your congregation who are:
- the first women elders or deacons in the congregation,
- the first women elder delegates to your classis,
or if you have men who have worked with those first women, in consistories or classes, we invite you to get audio or video recordings of interviews with them and make them part of a denominational record.
It’s easy to do!
Simply follow the links below to instructions, questions, and a release form. You—or maybe some tech-savvy member, especially a young member—can ask the “10 Questions” for women or men, as appropriate, while recording the interview on a device as simple as a smart phone. Then send the recording, along with a .pdf of the signed release form and appropriate photos, if you have any, to the RCA Archive (firstname.lastname@example.org) by Friday, April 20th.
The Archives staff will follow up with interviewees where more information is needed. Some of these interviews (or parts of them) will be shared at the Women’s Stories Day in May and in other venues. All of the interviews will help future generations to understand what this change was like for us, and will preserve voices that don’t always get heard by history.
Come, make some history with us!
