Doorn is a small, charming city close to Utrecht. Utrecht, pictured below, is a cosmopolitan city with canals, Romanesque and Gothic churches, and the amenities of a large city.

The International Summer School provides a forum in which students can participate in discussion with a variety of Dutch theologians and church leaders offering old and new perspectives on current issues.

Theology in a public forum has been a staple of Dutch theology throughout its history. The Reformed Church knew itself as the Public Church and reflected on the responsibility of theology to society from the nation’s beginning. The debates have not only continued but have deepened as the Dutch society faces new waves of immigrants who challenge the Netherlands’ famous attitude of toleration. What does the church, and theology in particular, have to contribute to this debate?

The International Summer School provides a forum in which students can participate in this discussion as a variety of Dutch theologians and church leaders offer old and new perspectives on fresh challenges. The school will include a special emphasis on the contribution of A.A. van Ruler, a seminal Dutch theologian of the mid-twentieth century, who offered a unique voice. His birth year is being celebrated in 2008. He is being rediscovered in a variety of contexts.

The cost is $2300 per person. A $200 deposit is necessary. by March 15, 2008. You will need a current passport.
