We are delighted that as part of our 230th year of ministry, Dr. John Coakley, Professor of Church History for the past 30 years, is writing a new history of our beloved seminary. You are invited to become a sponsor of the pictorial history by contributing $50 toward its publication. If we receive your gift by October 1, 2014, your name will be listed in the initial pages as a sponsor and we will send to you an autographed copy.
Please read in Dr. Coakley's own words his vision for this book:
"New Brunswick Theological Seminary: an Illustrated History, 1784-2014."
To mark the 230th anniversary of the seminary and the opening of the new campus, this volume celebrates the school's history in pictures and text. The pictures-some of them familiar, others rarely seen-convey a narrative of the seminary's life from its beginnings in the late 1700s until today. The text is an essay on the mission of this community of faith and learning as it has evolved in that stretch of time, from the early years when the classes were held in the studies of pastor-professors, through the decades when the school shared the quarters of "Old Queens" with Rutgers College, and then through its century and a half on "Holy Hill," all the way to the current moment of relocation to the carefully planned new building at 35 Seminary Place. It's our hope for this book that alumni and alumnae, and all friends of the seminary, will find in the story that the pictures and words convey-even the parts that they may not have known before-a sense of their own place in that story, and be reminded of their own belonging in the community of this ancient school, and their own part in its mission.
Thank you for your participation in this significant way of marking this moment in the history of New Brunswick Theological Seminary.
