Pennies for Pastor Program

Purpose
The purpose of the program is to teach young people the importance of stewardship, careers in Christian service, and the vital role the Seminary plays in the life of the Church. By donating their pennies to New Brunswick Theological Seminary, youth groups become partners in the Seminary’s mission to prepare men and women to translate their calling and gifts into faithful Christian ministry. By learning about the Seminary and its programs, they become more familiar with God’s call to ministry and how women and men prepare to live and spread the Gospel message.

Getting Started
The Pastor or youth group Leader should send a letter to the Director of Development saying that the church’s youth group will participate in the Pennies for Pastors Program. The letter should give the dates of the campaign and some background on the youth group. The letter validates the Church group’s campaign and the Seminary has a record of the participants in the Program.
The Seminary will send information about its programs to the youth group. We also will send a photograph release form for the group members’ parents to sign in the event there is any local or Seminary publicity on the Pennies for Pastors Program. The signed photograph release forms should be sent back to the Director of Development. The Seminary will comply, to the best of its ability, with anyone’s request for privacy.

Collecting Pennies
Pick a date for students to begin the project. Decide if you will involve the congregation, or just the youth group. At the close of the program, have students take the pennies to a bank or supermarket. Be sure to send the seminary the money in check form, made out to New Brunswick Theological Seminary. Seminary Visit
Groups participating in the Pennies for Pastors may visit New Brunswick Theological Seminary for a tour, worship service in the Chapel and a meeting with a seminarian. (If possible, a seminarian or seminary representative, may be able to visit the youth group at one of its meetings).

Acknowledgement
New Brunswick Theological Seminary will thank the youth group in writing, send a Certificate of Participation, and publicize the group and its contribution on its website and in its publication.
