AcademicsOur mission is to provide quality programs at a time and place convenient for you. The Master of Divinity (M.Div.) program provides the solid foundation you'll need if your goal is ordination to pastoral ministry. It is also excellent preparation if you desire a hospital or military chaplaincy, a cross-cultural mission, youth ministry, or further graduate study and teaching. Courses in Bible, systematic theology, church history, Christian education, ethics, worship and preaching, counseling and administration are basic. You may also elect courses in your area of special interest including urban ministry. At NBTS, you learn ministry by doing it. Under the guidance of a trained pastor/supervisor, you may work with a congregation, social service agency or overseas mission. Reflection groups help you think theologically about your pastoral identity and ministry experiences in church and society. The Master of Arts (M.A.) program offers theological studies and university course work if your goal is a Christian vocation without pastoral ordination. At NBTS you don't have to quit your job or neglect your family to prepare for ministry. We offer you the option of a complete M.Div. or M.A. program through night courses during the fall, spring and summer. If you live in New York City, Long Island or Connecticut, you need not travel further than St. John's University in Jamaica, Queens, where we offer these courses in the evening. Either way, we're available to help you answer God's call. |
